About the Department

The department of physical education was established in Dr. B.R.Ambedkar Satabarshiki Mahavidyalaya in the academic session 2019-2020. at present the department offers the UG course under the CBCS of the West Bengal state university the subject can be taken as a general subject. The subject is immensely popular among the students for its practical-based curriculum and it’s prospects in various professions.

THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical education is a course that focuses on developing physical fitness and the ability to perform and enjoy day-to-day physical activities with ease. It aims to develop students physical competence and knowledge of movement and safety , and their ability to use this to perform in a wide range of activities associated with the development of an active and healthy lifestyle. It also develops student’s confidence and generic skills, especially those of collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and aesthetic appreciation.

COURSE OUTCOME OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION GENERAL

Semester 1 (B.A General) DSC 1A/GE 1 Theory: Meaning and definition of physical education, objectives, modern concept and challenging concept, importance, nature and scope of physical education. biological sociological and philosophical foundation of physical education. Growth and development, factors affecting growth, principles of growth , introduction of Philosophies-naturalism, pragmatism, realism. Physiological age ,mental age and chronological age. Pre independence period and post independence period of Olympic, ancient Olympic and modern Olympic. Ancient Historical perspective. Definition of yoga. Types, aim, objectives and importance of yoga. Practical: Marching, Callisthenics, Aerobic

Semester 2 (B.A General) Theory: Concept and definition of sports Management, Important, Purpose, Principles of Sports Management. Meaning and definition and Types of tournaments (Knock-out, League, Combination), Annual Athletic meet and Play Day, Intramural and Extramural Competition. Athletic Track and Field marking, Playground , Gymnasium, Sports Equipment’s maintenance, Lay-out of Play –Field and Basic Rules: Football, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Badminton and Volleyball. Definition of Leadership, Qualities of good leader. Leadership in School, College and University level, Factors affecting Time Table. Practical: Track and Field, Football, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Badminton and Volleyball. JOB PROSPECT Name of the job Nature of Activity Physical Education Teacher: • Prepares and delivers instructional Physical Education. • Promotes student and community well being. • Involved in the co-curricular life of a School. School Sports Director: • Develops and ménages school sport and fitness programmers. • Motivates and coaches students to enhance sporting achievement. • Promotes high participation. Sports Coach: • Supports professional, Community or school sportspeople and Groups to improve performance. • Plans and provides training Programmers. • Ensures the health and safety of clients. Sports Development Officer: • Provides sporting opportunities throughout a community. • Assists in addressing issues such as health, crime and social inclusion. • Provides and markets sports classes and events.

Semester III Theory:

Anatomy Physiology and exercise Physiology, meaning and definition of anatomy physiology and exercise physiology ,Human cell, Tissue. Musculoskeletal system circulatory and respiratory system, Nervous and Endocrine system.

Practical:

Laboratory Practical Assessment of BMI and Heart Rate, Blood Pressure, Respiratory Rate, Pick up flow, Vital Capacity, Anthropometric Measurement.

Semester-III SEC:

Track and field

Running events, jumping events, throwing events.

Semester-IV :

Theory :

Concept definition and dimension of Health Education. Aim , objectives and principle of health education school health Program, Communicable disease and Non-communicable Diseases.

Practical:

Fitness test and skill Test.

Semester IV SEC:

Gymnastics and Yoga, Forward Roll, T-Balance, Split Leg, Backward Roll, Cart-Wheel, Hand Spring, Head Spring, Neck Spring, Asanas, Pranayama.
